Lunesta is a branded medicine which consists of Eszopiclone. It is a generic form and an active component of this branded drug. Lunesta 1 mg is an FDA-approved hypnotic medication which helps to treat sleeping disorders in individuals.

It is classified as nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic medicine, which produces a relaxing and calming effect in a patient. Lunesta is also called sleeping pills and Z-medicine because they work like benzodiazepine. It is approved to treat insomnia in adults and manufactured by Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc.

The CSA (Controlled Substance Act) classified the Lunesta medicine as a controlled substance of Schedule IV. This means that the drug can be misused or can form a habit in a person who is taking medicine.
This medication is identified by its blue color and round shape.

It has the imprint of S190 on the tablet. There is a black box warning issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The reason is due to fatal consequences such as complex sleep behavior. Without being fully awakened, a person performs activities unknowingly, such as walking and driving. A person can get injured and even death can occur.

For Adults

The daily dose for adults is 1 mg. It can be taken before going to sleep and one tablet a day. A 3 mg is the maximum allowable dose, which can be taken once in a day.

For Elderly People

The Starting dose for geriatric patients is 1 mg and the highest dose is 2 mg. It can be taken one time before going to sleep.
