It is a prescription-only and CNS (central nervous system) stimulant medication. It is a combination medicine that comprises amphetamine and dextroamphetamine and both act as active ingredients.

There are other branded medicines in which these two components are used like Mydayis and Adderall XR. The combination medication is approved by the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Generally, it is approved for treating neurodevelopmental and sleeping disorders.

It is categorized as a controlled substance of Schedule II. Due to this category, it can form a habit because this combination medicine has a high risk of drug abuse, misuse, and dependency. The extended-release (ER) and immediate-release (IR) are two forms of this drug.

• Capsule (ER): The extended release is in the form of a capsule with dosage strengths such as 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 25mg, and 30mg.

• Tablet (IR): The immediate release is in the form of a tablet. The dosage strengths are 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, 15mg, 20mg and 30mg.

Dosage Administration

The initial suggested dose is 10 mg in children who are between 6 to 17 years old. In adults, 20 mg is the advised dose that should be taken in the morning.

This causes the prevention of reabsorption or reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine into the nerve cell (presynaptic neuron). It enhances the concentration of these two monoamines. This drug helps to reduce the symptoms of ADHD in children.
