Gabapentin 800 mg

Gabapentin 800 mg is used to alleviate medical conditions. Like, brain disorders (focal seizures) and nerve-related pain This medicinal product has anti-seizure and anti-relieving properties.

The brand names of Gabapentin are Neurontin, Gralise, etc. This approved medicine is advised for treating different conditions in adults and children. It is not characterized as a Schedule medicine.

This Gabapentin medicine has an ‘OE’ imprint on one side and 800 on the other side. It comes in the form of an oral capsule, tablet, and solution.

How Does Gabapentin 800 mg Medicine Work?

It has similar structure like gamma-aminobutyric acid, chemical messenger. However, Gabapentin has no tendency to bind with receptors of GABA. But it has a high affinity to get attached with alpha-2-delta-1 which is a calcium subunit.

It has an anti-epileptic effect, which helps to minimize the unusual electrical activity in the brain. Its analgesic effect prevents the transmission of pain-related messages to the brain and spine. This is how this medicinal product reduces seizures and shingles.

Uses of  800 mg Gabapentin:

This pharmaceutical product has approved as well over-counter uses and these are as follows:-

1) Medicinal Uses

• Seizures: This white tablet helps to relax abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
• Neuropathic Pain: Nerve-related pain can be treated by this white round 800 pill. It is linked with shingles, which is severe skin rashes.
• Restless Leg Syndrome: The OE 800 pill also helps in treating the syndrome in which there is an unusual feeling in the legs. It creates a desire to move the legs

• Bipolar disorder
• Fibromyalgia
• Postmenopausal hot flashes
• Post-traumatic disorder
• Insomnia

Other Dose & Dosage Strength:

It has various forms; oral tablet, capsule, and oral-solution. Gabapentin 800 mg comes in tablet form and   the strength of the dose are as follows:-

Tablet-form

• Gabapentin 600 mg
• Gabapentin 1200 mg
• Gabapentin 1600 mg

Capsule-form

• Gabapentin 100 mg
• Gabapentin 300 mg
• Gabapentin 400 mg

Solution-form

• Gabapentin 250 mg/5 mL

Dosage Administration:-

1) To treat Post-Herpetic Neuralgia

In Adults

• The dose starts with 300 mg.
• Second day,  A dose of 300 mg has to be taken two times a day (600 mg).
• Third day, A 300 mg dose can be consumed thrice a day (900 mg).
• 1800 mg is the maximum dosage for a day.

In Elderly Patients

The dose starts with a nominal dose, and it can be altered on the basis of renal function.

2) For Partial Onset Seizures

The initial dosage strengths for patient with different age group are mentioned below:-

Adult (12 to 64 years)

• A dose of 300 mg, daily three times.
• Maximum Dose: 2400 and 3600 mg in a day.

Children (5 to 11 years)

• A nominal dose is 25 to 35 mg/kg in a day, with three divided doses.

3 to 11 years Children

• The initial dose is between 10 mg and 15 mg/kg in a day, divided into three doses.

Children (3 to 4 years)

• The starting dose is 40 mg/kg/day, which is divided into three doses.

Patients with Liver Problems

• Minimum dose is determined for such patients.

• Swelling in the feet, arms, legs and hands

• Muscle weakness
• Sudden changes in mood

• Unusual behavior

• Abdominal pain (for a long duration)
• Involuntary eye movement

Precautions:
