Overview

Dilaudid 2mg is a medicine that is used for treating moderate to severe pain in patients. The problem occurs due to arthritis, cancer, neck pain, fibromyalgia, etc., which leads to anxiety, insomnia, depression and other common symptoms that occur in people. It is a branded medicine which contains an active ingredient called Hydromorphone Hydrochloride. This medicine is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug.

This pain relief medicine works as a narcotic pain reliever in the Central Nervous System (CNS). This drug binds the opioid receptors in the brain, which helps to reduce the symptoms of severe chronic pain in individuals. It consists of several inactive ingredients which include magnesium stearate, lactose anhydrous etc. This drug has a half life of 2 to 3 hours when this medicine is used by people for the treatment of severe pain.

Dilaudid Dosage:

Dilaudid 2 mg is taken by the adults only when they are suffering from severe chronic pain. It is the lowest dosage strength of this drug and available in oral tablet. The dosage strength of 4 mg and 8 mg of this medicine are also available for treating pain in patients. The other forms of this drug are oral liquid, prefilled syringe, suppositories, injectable solution and extended-release oral tablets.

Doctors are not recommending this medicine to children. If they are suffering from pain, then their parent or guardian must consult with a doctor for treating the symptoms that occur due to severe pain.

Uses of Dilaudid 2mg Medicine:

Dilaudid 2mg is mainly used in the treatment of severe pain. People take this medicine with or without food when they are suffering from this condition. Taking Dilaudid drug with food helps to reduce stomach problems in individuals and is also used in the treatment of cough.

Drug interactions:

Dilaudid medicine has the higher chances of interacting with other medicinal drugs. These include Chlordiazepoxide, Dezocine, Doxylamine, Fluspirilene, Pipotiazine, Methamphetamine, Potassium Oxybate, Sodium Oxybate, Rizatriptan, Tilidine etc.

Precautions:

• This medicine is strictly prohibited to women at the time of pregnancy and breastfeeding. It will be harmful for their unborn child when they take Dilaudid medicine while suffering from these problems.
• Swallow this medicine with a glass of water. A bitter taste can occur when a person is crushing or chewing the tablet.
• This medicine must be stored at room temperature, which ranges from 15 and 30 degrees Celsius.
  Driving a vehicle or performing other activities is strictly prohibited after taking this medicine, since it causes drowsiness, which can be dangerous for a person.
• Avoid using this drug when an individual is suffering from allergy.
• The blood pressure of any individual may get lowered if he or she can take this medicine with other medicinal drugs. Therefore, a person must not take Dilaudid 2 mg when using Mono Amine Oxidase (MAO) Inhibitor.
• A person must consult with a doctor when suffering from shivering, sweating etc., after taking Dilaudid 2 mg.
• Drinking alcohol after taking this medicine can cause a liver damage which is dangerous for person’s health.
• Therefore, an individual should not consume alcohol after taking Dilaudid drug.
• Avoid taking Dilaudid 2 mg tablet after an expiry date of this medicine. It will be dangerous for a person if he or she can take this medicine after it gets expired.
